From Ghana to Indonesia – Inspiration, Flip-Flops, and Sustainability at the International Week
Date: April 7–11, 2025
Venue: Hungarian University of Fine Arts (1062 Budapest, Andrássy út 69-71.)
The Hungarian University of Fine Arts warmly invites its staff and colleagues from partner institutions to the 2nd International Week, taking place from April 7 to 11, 2025.
The International Week (International Staff Week) is a key event at the Hungarian University of Fine Arts, providing an excellent opportunity to strengthen international collaborations. It serves as a professional meeting point for knowledge exchange while also offering inspiring programs. Participants will have the chance to explore the university’s departments, exhibition spaces, and institutional operations.
This year’s program features a variety of workshops and lectures by distinguished artists and university lecturers from Taiwan, Indonesia, Cambodia, Mongolia, Armenia, South Africa, and Nigeria. One of the prominent guest speakers of the event is Heri Wardono, known as Heri Dono, a renowned Indonesian contemporary artist.
As part of the cultural program, participants can visit the exhibition of Ghanaian artist Patrick Tagoe-Turkson, titled Rewoven Patterns. His works reflect Ghana’s visual culture and address current socio-environmental challenges. The primary material for his compositions is discarded flip-flops, collected from the shores of the Atlantic Ocean. Through a unique technique, these repurposed sandals create intricate compositions that echo both West Africa’s vibrant textile patterns and the nostalgic imagery of childhood kaleidoscopes.
