Interview with Prof. Boakye-Yiadom Frederick, The Faculty of Arts, TTU, Ghana

Could you introduce the Faculty of Arts TTU Ghana?
The Faculty of Applied Art and Technology stands at the forefront of creative education, offering specialized programs across six distinct art disciplines: sculpture, textiles, fashion, painting, ceramics, and graphics. Each discipline is supported by a dedicated department, ensuring focused and comprehensive training for students.
Our faculty offers a diverse range of academic programs, from diplomas and higher national diplomas to bachelor's and master's degrees. With a robust team of 9 associate professors, 1 full professor, and numerous academic doctors, senior lecturers, lecturers, and assistant lecturers, we are committed to delivering exceptional education and fostering academic excellence.
Equipped with state-of-the-art tools and materials, our faculty emphasizes hands-on learning experiences. Aligned with the principles of Education 5.0, our programs prioritize innovation, industrialization, and marketing, preparing our students to become leaders in their fields and contributors to the broader creative industry.
At the Faculty of Applied Art and Technology, we nurture talent and drive progress, blending artistic creativity with practical skills to shape the future of art and design.

Could you mention something special or something typically local of your art faculty?
Placing empgasis on Education 5.0 that help to shape the learners to have the actitude of self-dependence.

You gave a lecture titled „Sculpture and leadership”. Please, tell us more about your topic.
The relationship between sculpture and leadership is one of profound synergy. By examining the qualities and processes involved in sculpture, we can gain valuable insights into effective leadership. Both require vision, creativity, precision, dedication, and the ability to inspire and transform. Understanding this connection can enhance our approach to leadership, making us more effective, empathetic, and innovative leaders.

What is your current project, what are you currently working on?
I am working on two projects and publish in a refereed journal for publication. The following are the two works:

  • “The Effects of Contextual Information and Artistic Style on the Perception of Cone-like and packed-cylindrical Clay Sculptures in the Faculty of Applied Arts and Technology: Takoradi, Ghana”
  • “Exploring the unwritten perspectives on Philosophical Character of Carved Adinkra Symbols of TTU”

What have you found most interesting about our university?

The unique blend of historical richness, cultural vibrancy, and innovative education, making your university interesting and attractive destinations for students of art and design.
