Hungarian University of Fine Arts Presents Two Exhibitions in Bucharest
At the invitation of the Liszt Institute – Hungarian Cultural Centre Bucharest, the Hungarian University of Fine Arts (HUFA) is presenting two exhibitions in the Romanian capital from 20 October to 30 November 2026. The programme marks another milestone in the University’s long-standing and fruitful cooperation with its Romanian cultural partners.
The Liszt Institute’s exhibition spaces are showing reproductions of prints by Giovanni Battista Piranesi from the University’s Art Collection, while the Salon of Contemporary Art (SNAC) is hosting a selection from the 25th International Graphic Design Biennial, featuring works by HUFA faculty members, students and alumni.
Both exhibitions are part of the programmes of Bucharest Graphic Days and the Salon of Contemporary Art. Together, they offer insight into two sides of the University: the artistic heritage it preserves and its contemporary creative practice.
The Eternal Wanderer of Ancient Rome – Prints by Giovanni Battista Piranesi from the Collection of the Hungarian University of Fine Arts is curated by art historian Dr Anikó Bojtos, whose selection focuses on prints depicting the architectural monuments of ancient Rome. Comprising some 1,160 works, HUFA’s Piranesi collection is one of the most significant intact collections of the artist’s prints in Hungary. As the originals are fragile, the exhibition features high-quality reproductions of selected pieces from this exceptional body of graphic art.
The opening ceremony will be hosted by András László Kósa, Director of the Liszt Institute Bucharest. Guests will be welcomed by Professor Dr István Erős, Rector of HUFA; Professor Dr Petru Lucaci, President of the Union of Visual Artists of Romania; and Ciprian N. Isac, Director of Bucharest Graphic Days. The exhibition will be officially opened by Dr habil. Ildikó Fehér, art historian and Vice-Rector for General Affairs at HUFA.
The Biennial selection, curated by Attila Auth – graphic designer, Noémi Ferenczy Award winner and retired Associate Professor at HUFA – showcases works by faculty members and students of the Graphic Design Specialisation in the University’s Department of Graphics. It will be opened by art historian Tekla Uszkay.
Launched in Békéscsaba in 1978, the Biennial has given Hungarian graphic designers a platform for their work for nearly five decades. This prestigious professional event continues to spotlight current trends and innovative approaches in the field, while also serving as an important meeting point for different generations of designers.
The Bucharest exhibitions also offer an opportunity to deepen HUFA’s existing institutional partnerships in Romania and may pave the way for new professional collaborations.
