Czár Anna Csenge: Insomnia

Czár Anna Csenge: Insomnia
Czár Anna Csenge’s distinctive approach to depicting the human figure explores the world of insomnia. The exhibition Insomnia by the graduating Graphic Arts student is presented as part of Graphic Arts Turn X (“Grafikai Forduló X.”)
On view: 8–23 October 2026
Venue: Hungarian University of Fine Arts, Main Building, Graphic Arts Turn, first-floor staircase landing (1062 Budapest, Andrássy út 69–71)
Movement, gestures and bodily processes play a central role in Czár Anna Csenge’s work. She primarily works with collagraphy, which she uses on tracing paper and canvas, as well as as part of individual painting details, combining graphic techniques with painting. Last year, she studied painting at the Edinburgh College of Art as an Erasmus student. This year, her work has been presented in several exhibitions, including her solo exhibition Fúzió at Alibi Salon, the group exhibition A fény árnyékot vet at the Main Building of the Hungarian University of Fine Arts, Sacred Forms of Mother Nature at Újpest Gallery, and the national exhibition of the Miskolc Graphic Triennial.
Insomnia is a sleep disorder characterised by difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep. In this exhibition, insomnia appears as an uncertain, suspended state between wakefulness and sleep. On the translucent layers of tracing paper, individual moments of movement are captured, while separate sleeping positions come together to form a single process. The body thus appears increasingly in motion, yet remains in an unchanged position – suspended in a state of insomnia.
