HOMAGE TO THE PATRONS OF ART
Hungarian University of Fine Arts Library Archive and Art Collection
Each year the university’s Library, Archive and Art Collection contributes to presenting the University’s educational activity by displaying an exhibition of the collection or a representative exhibition of the institution’s history.
The current exhibition showcases the relationship between the university and its collection through the display of the ever-growing Art Collection, and it also aims to show the source of the collection’s growth. Over the past eight years, the collection has received a number of significant donations. The body of the exhibition consists of three notable bequests: pages of the The Vác Workshop, a selection from the portfolios of The Makó Graphic Artists’ Colony, and a collection of artworks from the university’s own, recently deceased, master, Róbert König. In addition to these, the exhibition also displays our collection’s hidden gems, be that a single page, like Jenő Barcsay’s etching gifted by the Mission Art Gallery; or a posthumous print based on Viktor Olgyai’s etching plate, a gift acquired owing to collaboration between Ágnes Király, Ilona Décsi and Imre Kéri.
The exhibition shows the tremendous importance of our university’s lecturers in the growth of the collection. Professor Frigyes Kőnig’s perpetual acquisitions, as well as donations made by our lecturer Imre Kocsis of works made in The Makó Graphic Artists’ Colony are all crucial pieces of the collection. Then again, our other instructors have also contributed to the growing of the collection, and through it to the documentation of the University’s educational activity.
